The tenants parable

What does the parable represent? It appears in Mark 1 Matthew 2 and Luke 20. Jesus had just overturned the tables in the temple courts and driven out the moneychangers. They were already aware, but they did not wish to know.


Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. Last of all, he sent his son to them.

A parable is a story with a hidden message that only “spiritually opened” ears can hear. The parables are word pictures into what God is trying to teach us. At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. Each of these parables is told to the Jewish religious leaders, each illustrates their rejection of Jesus, and each pronounces judgment on Israel for their rejection of their Messiah.

When the season came, he sent a slave to the tenants to collect from them his share of the produce of the vineyard.

And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Again he sent to them another servant, and they struck him on the head and treated him shamefully.
